I read all about Taryn and her amazing story. I knew immediately I needed more of this message in my life. I wanted to be part of spreading this message to as many beautiful humans as possible!

I know now what I came to this planet to shout from the mountain tops! I’m on this planet to empower you with body confidence, self-love, and worthiness.

One of the things I’m most proud from my USANA Health Sciences partnership, is my monthly donation to the True Health Foundation (THF).

I’ve been with USANA for 23 years. During this time I’ve watched the THF and the Children’s Hunger Fund feed millions of families. I’ve watched them come to the aid of suffering countries all over the world.

Stay away from sugar. Before meal blood sugars are 70-99. It’s estimated that a blood sugar level of 120 reduces your immune system by up to 75%!

About once a month my body says to me, “Angie, it’s time for a RESET.” This a good thing for a couple of reasons:

  1. My natural biorhythm is working perfectly. Gotta love that!
  2. A 5-day cleanse makes me feel incredibly renewed on several levels.

I get a lot of questions about doing a 5-day reset. The most popular question is, “Does this reset thing really help me manage my weight?”

Diets don’t work; lifestyle changes do

I’ll be straight-up with you, it’s not about losing weight. I hear a lot of gasps right after I say this. But, it’s true. A reset is exactly what the name implies–it’s a RESET. We are resetting our bodies back to a healthy baseline so we can jump-start our healthy habits. And of course we all know that healthy habits lead to a healthy lifestyle.

Strategies about creating habits and forming certain intentions are not tricks, but once we form them, they are more likely to kick in automatically right when we need them.

This is why resets works. Resets are lifestyle changes not diets. Diets don’t work. Lifestyle changes do work. This is what the science says. We all know this, but most of keep trying dieting and continue to set ourselves up for failure.

Humans are generally lazy. A nicer way of phrasing this is that in general we are so efficient that we tend to follow the path of least resistance! 😉

This desire for taking the easy approach is a blessing in disguise. When it comes to lifestyle diet changes, this is thee golden rule.

Stock up on foods that are known to be healthier for you and known to help manage weight!

Conversely, remove all the foods that you know are bad for you and contribute to excessive weight gain. Bottom line is give yourself easy access to the good stuff. Make it harder to be able to get your hands on the not-so-good stuff.

Eating well and taking care of yourself

It’s not about how you look anymore

On December twentieth, 2017, I decided to be mindfully unmindful.

Mindfully choosing to eat, in particular, cherry Hershey kisses, every night for a week. I also engaged in a lot, of processed foods. Cheese and crackers, homemade bread, a few cookies, lots of popcorn, beer, and pizza.

80/20 Rule

I have often said that I am a big believer in 80/20 rule. I really do enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle 80% of the time or more.

I also love, one of my favorite things, movie popcorn with a large fountain pop! It’s true! I look forward to movie night with my husband twice a month, and that’s my favorite thing! Most of the time we go and get a burger before the movie. My burger would be without the bun, and I always get sweet potato fries but you get the picture. #noregrets 🤗

So the results of my conscious crappy eating include, all of the following:

  1. Bloating
  2. 5 unwanted pounds.
  3. Severe heartburn.
  4. Many nights sleeping with my head on two or three pills, almost sitting up, because of the heartburn.
  5. Restless sleep.
  6. Psoriasis flare-up.
  7. Mood swings.
  8. Depression
  9. Lack of motivation and focus

The Damage

According  registered dietitian Aglaee Jacob, “Regular binges increase risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, some types of cancers, gallbladder disease, headaches, joint pain and menstrual problems for women.

Binges can also affect you psychologically by causing feelings of failure, guilt and shame, depression and even suicidal thoughts.”

The Good News

I’m not exactly sure of the deep-seated reasons I chose to allow myself this re-tox. However what I do know is the contrast between how I feel eating dead processed foods and eating food my body craves for health, energy, focus, and motivation to be my highest self.

It only took two days, and I was already feeling relief!

  • I can’t believe it!…Yes, I can!
  • I totally KNOW this and TEACH this.
  • It really was a strange gift to experience the reality of how destructive “dead food” can be👎🏼

Eating well and taking care of yourself

It’s not about how you look anymore

Yes, I like how I look much better when I’m taking care myself–that seems natural to me. But now, it’s about having the energy and vitality to feel my best!

  • To walk the talk! To feel strong and confident with a clear mind.
  • To take responsibility for the energy I bring to each day.
  • To have the physical ability to play with my children and perform at my highest levels in my highest purpose!

A Perfect warm-up for those bitter cold days.
You gotta try this!


Low Glycemic Chili - Angie Gray Wellness

This is a huge win–my fave low glycemic chili recipe straight from our Sanoviv health and education retreat!

Ingredients

  • 6 organic chicken breasts shredded
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 cans of organic stew tomatoes 1
  • 1 can organic kidney beans rinsed and drained.
  • 1 can organic black beans rinsed and drained.
  • 1 cup picante sauce or tomato salsa 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Himalayan salt and pepper to taste.

Optional toppings

  • Chopped red onion
  • Fresh cilantro!
  • A large dollop of organic sour cream!

Preparation

  1. 6-4 ounce frozen chicken breasts into crockpot.
  2. Add all other ingredients.
  3. Cook all day in the crockpot on low.
  4. Shred chicken before serving.

Pro tips:

  1. I sometimes have a roasted chicken that I will shred and do all this in a large pot on the stove. If I don’t have a roasted chicken then I will cook it all day in the crockpot. Everyone loves it!
  2. I often throw my green pepper and onion in my ninja and blend it up before I add it so my kids don’t see the chunks! LOL!

Eat Anything You Want

Eat Anything You Want - Angie Gray Wellness

While I was at Sanoviv Medical Institute with my group of amazing healthy aware humans, my friend and lead nutritionist shared her eat anything you want nutrition and weight loss plan with me!

I’m going to share it with you! 😊

Let’s say you want a bag of chips,
and you’re dying for a giant bowl of ice cream!

What do you do?

Would you believe me if I told you that you could definitely have your ice cream and chips!?

Well, here’s what you do–follow these simple instructions and obey the one and only rule below.

First, go to your kitchen table ( not your living room and there can be no television screen in front of you) and find the prettiest tablecloth you have.

 

Get your phone and put some real pretty music on something nice and relaxing.

Set your phone somewhere off the table and out of reach.

 

Now go get your best plate and your best fork and put that on the table.

If you have a flower handy, set it right next to your candle, so you have some lovely things to look at.

Is your table set? Do you have music, tablecloth, best plate, best fork, flower, & candle? If yes, then proceed. If no, get your settings before moving on.

 

Get that big bag of chips and that big bowl of ice cream!

Empty the bag of chips and your bowl of ice cream onto that pretty plate.

 

Now, sit down at your lovely setting and begin to eat. Enjoy every bite.

Appreciate the fuss you made to create the perfect ambiance for the perfect treat. ❤️

 


Hang on. So, what’s the one and only rule?

You are not allowed under any circumstance to be on your phone while enjoying your ice cream and potato chips.

Eat & enjoy. Do nothing else while you are eating.

Slow down, you’re eating too fast. Distracted, hurried eating may add pounds and take away pleasure. –Harvard Medical

According to Harvard Medical, “A small yet growing body of research suggests that a slower, more thoughtful way of eating could help with weight problems and maybe steer some people away from processed food and other less-healthful choices.”

Can Food Really Heal?

As you all know I was honored to travel to Baja, MX last week to Sanoviv Medical Institute to host a Health and Education Retreat for six days.

But, like all of us when we try something new, I had some doubts and concerns. “Will I be able to let go, will my kids be okay, and will I be ready for my upcoming keynote presentation?” were just some of the things on my mind.

It Was Amazing

It was my first time going to Sanoviv. I heard so many great things about it, but experiencing it myself, with my husband and friends, exceeded all expectations! Here is just a shortlist of what was provided to make our retreat a truly healing experience:

MY TAKEAWAY

I was able to RELAX.  Let it go and TRUST.  PRACTICE what I TEACH. I came home so renewed and so full of gratitude for my life and my health!

My husband Todd lives a pretty healthy life but kind of waived off the VERY REAL significance of DIET when it came to its relationship to PAIN.

With his work, his pre-Sanoviv diet, nutrition, and lifestyle kept his pain at about a 3 on a scale of 1-10.  Some days worse or better depending on the job.

Nights were the worst. His arms would fall asleep.  Not the tingly falling asleep but a painful fall asleep accompanied by pain that would wake him up at night.

TODD’S TAKEAWAY

After two days at Sanoviv, he was pain-FREE. YES.  Pain-FREE!!!

The MORAL of the story is FOOD MATTERS.  TOXINS MATTER.  SLEEP AND WATER, MATTER.

About three years ago, someone I respect, told me that if I was feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, or if I felt like I wanted to quit, then just QUIT.

At 47-years old I  started my coaching business after 18 years of being a stay-at-home mom. Out of our seven children, three were still being home-schooled, and basically, five of the seven were still living at home.

My husband Todd is an entrepreneur and runs a successful flooring business.

Although all the troops were on board to support my new journey, no one really knew what to expect, including me.

The kids were used to having me “at the ready” and honestly so was Todd. I was juggling all the new parts of having a business and growing a team all the while doing my best to maintain all the same mom responsibilities.

There were a lot of break-downs along the way.

I’m happy to share with you that in 3 years:

  • I have grown an International business,
  • become a leader within my community and company,
  • and increased our income.

What manifested in these 3 years were the most amazing things and experiences in our life. But, all this wasn’t possible

Ever have negative emotions? Of course, we all do. But, I’ll bet that most of use don’t know how to handle or cope with these negative emotions. I.e. we are doing it all wrong. This didn’t look quite as pretty as the picture but actually that mango looks a bit like melted cheese?

Listen people, I do not love to venture off the beaten path when it comes to what I eat. I know what I like and that’s usually what I eat every day.

So, this new #30dayraw (you should do it with me), has really opened me up to food and how fun it is!

That might sound funny coming from a Holistic Wellness Coach who talks about food? But, with 7 kids it’s not easy to be super creative and get something that everyone likes. This is especially challenging with a picky husband. 🙄

So for now I’m making my own meals and hoping they’ll be open to trying them. This taco recipe is amaze balls, and EASY 😅

A little too salty so I’ll tweak it for next time but it lasted me for 2 supper meals! 🙌🏻Super good! 😋and PS, all the new recipes I’m making fit right into my amazing SexyFit program!

Father’s Day 2017 – He loves his children’s mother

Happy Father’s Day to all my friends that are dads, all of the husbands, and to the men who love and care for the children that aren’t even their “own.” 😊

My husband, Todd adopted our eldest child when we got married when she was just five years-old.
This was the beginning of an unbelievable grace-filled family journey that would read more like a novel than a newsletter. Numerous beautiful experiences in our life have molded us into the amazing individuals and parents (and children) that we are today.

 

I love my husband of 26-years, more today than than ever before; I love him for many reasons.
Despite our sometimes polar opposite parenting styles, and more often than not,  feeling like I am the only parent in the house–he loves our children fiercely.

 

The number one biggest and most important gift he has embodied for our children is his love for me.

This weekend I had the honor of presenting at a health and fitness fest.
Before I began to teach–as we  waited for the event to begin, I introduced myself to a group of ladies at the table. I like to meet the audience to ask what they hope to learn or hear more about.
They thought for a moment and one lady simply said,

“How do we fit it all in?”

This is an age old question.

The same lady proceeded to tell me the schedule of her daily events and how by the end of the day she was pooped. With all our responsibilities, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time.

This, my sisters, is NOT true and NOT true.

WE decide what things or people or tasks we prioritize.

WE decide what things or people or tasks we give our time to.

Just Do It Just Do It

Our choices reflect our priorities. So, the simple answer to, “How do I fit it all in?”

START with fitting YOU in…. FIRST thing in the morning.  YOU.

MY MOTHER’S DAY MIRACLE

On May 4th, 2017 my two eldest daughters and I went to the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico. We spent six days experiencing beautiful tropical weather, beaches, rainforest hikes, bodysurfing, great food, and snapping tons of selfies!

This was the first time I had ever been anywhere with just the two eldest of our seven children.

We all did great staying off our phones during the trip–making just the nightly calls to check-in at home (me to Todd and the three kids still at home, and Shannon and Abby to their families ❤️).

THEY LOVE ME

On the way home, we had time to post all our pics of all the mother-daughter amazingness!!
Maybe you saw them?

  • Jumping in the air at the beach?
  • Laughing at the cliffs?
  • At the seaside farm to plate restaurants?
  • Baking (with sunscreen!) in the sun?
  • On our back-road mountain climbing car rides to the rainforest?

Sounds amazing, yes? Truth be told, it WAS amazing!!!


 

MY MOTHER’S DAY MIRACLE

One year ago, I would never have in a million years thought that my girls would have everAngie Gray Wellness & Coaching considered traveling out of the country with ME would be appealing. I know in their hearts it would have been a HOPE but most likely they would have never entertained it.

A LOT HAS CHANGED IN A YEAR

This trip was actually Shannon’s (our eldest) idea.  She asked ME! I said YES! Then we asked Abby, and when she was a go, it was a done deal.

These two women, my daughters, have grown up with me.

I was pregnant with Shannon as a senior in high school and had Abby at 23. Growing up they had decisions made for them, by me, that were not easy to navigate at times. They loved me. They did not LIKE me. It was more like tolerated me 🙂  That was until this last year.

WHAT WE DIDN’T POST

The not so pretty part of mother-daughter love.

  • Is it because they are like me in ways, and don’t want to be?
  • Is it because they still feel the pain of those decisions that were made for them growing up?
  • Is it that I really AM annoying and over the top and pushy and bossy and too happy and not enough?

ALL THE ABOVE IS TRUE….at times.

They love me and like me (most of the time ), and they are my BEST friends.

WHAAT??!!!

I can’t even believe I get to say that!!!

So that’s it, my mama bear friends.

KEEP UP THE GOOD AND IMPORTANT WORK

  • Keep learning to love yourself and remembering how amazing you are.
  • Keep reminding yourself how worthy YOU are.
  • Tell your daughter EVERY DAY how worthy SHE IS.
  • Teach them to love themselves, by example.
  • You will get through the not so fun times.
  • They love you.
  • Be real, be honest, be wrong.
  • Teach them to breathe fire.
  • They are watching.

Breaking Through Self Doubt

I felt stuck for a week, and yesterday I had a breakthrough 🙂

I am shifting in my business and it FEELS DIFFERENT.

For 2 weeks it felt, not so good. Sluggish.

What if no one does anything? If I switch my focus and follow the well-being, I know that leads me, but will I reach my goals?

For all of these questions I already had the answers, but the SHIFT can really rattle a girl for a minute!  

Growth feels different and sometimes it feels bittersweet. It is necessary as I CHOOSE to move forward but the FEELING, because it is new, can feel uncomfortable. So riding it out is a CHOICE.

I choose to ride it out, because, from experience, I know that I am SHIFTING and getting ready for the next level of ME. The feeling of “pressure” isn’t a bad thing.  A diamond doesn’t get to be a diamond, without some pressure.

The breakthrough happened, and the FEELING is SO GOOD.

I CHOOSE TO TRUST MY JOURNEY!  It NEVER lets me down!  Whoop! Whoop!
