For 28 years of my marriage with Todd, we have cycled through the same challenge.
He Said, She Said
75% of our communication, when it comes to decision making, disagreements, parenting decisions, talks about money, even how we Christmas shop, ended in arguments. They led to me shutting down. Todd feeling attacked or told what to do. Me feeling like a deer in headlights, like, “What just happened?”.
This struggle has been real for 28 years. Our inability to communicate effectively has left us both incredibly desperate and very lonely.
I think he should talk nicer, be mindful of his tone and facial expressions when he speaks to me. When I communicate with him, I’d really love it if he would have something to say back.
He thinks I over-react and make things a bigger deal than they are. He doesn’t like to be “told what to do” or “scripted” to talk to the kids.
When I communicate with him things that bother me, he stares back and asks me to get to the point. He communicates “matter of fact”, bottom line. Point A to point B.
Written here it may not sound like a big deal. But, of course, it goes much deeper than this.
Communication is Key to a Sustainable and Successful Relationship.

According to recent relationship trends “People are increasingly more open to investing in mentors they trust, and will not shy away from investing in the love department of their lives in 2019. ” And, “To maintain a happy, strong relationship for the duration of a lifetime requires couples to continually adapt to one other. They are more inclined to work through relationship issues in order to adapt to their partner’s ongoing needs and changes.”
Both Todd and I believe in counseling and have made it part of our journey. We have seen a counselor on and off for our whole marriage and the source was always, we could not seem to communicate effectively no matter what we did or hard we seemed to try.
The Skill Set that Changed our Marriage
Recently, for my work as a Holistic Wellness Coach, I was introduced to a revolutionary skillset to increase my revenue by up to 300%, allow me to understand and serve my customers and partners better, and to save us both time.
Little did I know that this unique skill set would apply not only to my professional relationships and be a game changer but also be a game changer in my PERSONAL relationships as well.
It was like a light bulb finally turned on and it was all clear!
I really never thought we would move through this. I thought we would have to settle. I thought we would never be able to be as close as I wanted., to come to the line at the same time. I never thought I would say this, but Todd and I have never been more in love. It’s so awesome!
I now understand the specific set of “negotiation” or “come alongside” values that Todd communicates from are completely different than mine.
For 28 years I have basically been speaking a foreign language to him and he to me.
He has heard, “blah, blah, blah. What do you think?”
Or, “blah, blah blah, that’s why I think we should buy a new treadmill.”
Now when we have a discussion or negotiate or parent or present grievances or challenges come up, I filter it all first and remember to speak “Todd”
I kid you not, EVERYTHING is different. EVERYTHING has changed.
Just last night, we cycled to a quickly heated negotiation. Per the old ways, it came fast and I felt like it came out of nowhere. I thought for a second, omg, I can’t believe I just wrote about our bliss and here we are again.
The difference was I didn’t tell myself the old story. I KNEW we were different now. He KNEW we were different, No going back. No UNlearning what we have learned. We walked away before it was “too late”. Within the hour, my man apologized and we went to bed holding hands.
Todd and I are forever on this journey. Forever.
As my personal relationships have shifted and grown, so has my professional direction. I continue to coach wellness with a twist and focus on relationships. PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS.

they did light checks etc., I was thinking, “how did I get here?” I
never thought about cohosting a segment on the Dr. Oz show. Not ever.
Not even once. I thought, "Is it karma? Is the universe really listening? Thank you, universe!"

Nursing students have a clear end result. They need to finish their
studies and graduate. The intention? To serve others with all they’ve
learned--this is clear.

Learning how different personalities work is is essential for successful relationships.
If there is one thing I know for sure, it is when things between Todd and I aren’t going great.
No matter how hard I try to manipulate the circumstances, the rest of my life becomes challenging including how I relate to my kids and in my work life. Nothing flows. Everything seems harder and feels less joyful.

Todd and I could not be more different in how we communicate. Boy has that been a source of frustration and misunderstanding!
Many years ago I was given a nugget of wisdom by an amazing woman and therapist named Carol. This beautiful nugget saved me from many years of disappointment.
Here it is:
THERE ARE NO “SUPPOSED TO BE’S”
Todd is not the prince that always knows what to say and how comes to my rescue and I am not the princess that, well … no where close.
No “supposed to be’s” meant that the expectations I projected onto my husband and he onto me, were a set up for failure and disappointment.
My relationship with my husband is the most important one of all. The opportunity that we manifested for us to grow in our understanding of how we communicate through my relationship/communication training, has been an eye opener. This new awareness filled us with a greater understanding of each other and cultivated more grace to give to one another.
As Todd and I enter into the 3rd quarter of our lives and of our marriage, here are five things we work toward with great intention:
Daily check in: For us it’s after we get into bed KIds are in bed or acting as if and we shut the door and take time to download and be good listeners. #intimacy
Weekly date nights: WE love our date night! We are simple folk. Usually dinner and a movie. Currently we are committed to spicing it up with each of taking one date night a mont to do something our of our comfort zone! Really crazy like, bowling! LOL! #spiceitup
Meditation: We are very mindful of the energy we bring to eachother. Practicing meditation is foundational for us. Sometimes we meditate together but most often its on our own time. Taking the time to remember who we are and be grateful for all that we have fills our cup so we are our best selves for each other and our family and in our work life. #rememberwhoyouare
Relationship checkups with our favorite family therapist. Having a great therapist on call for check-ins and check-ups is part of our tool kit. #backontrack
Speak to your spouse like you’re dating. This is my favorite and and the most important one, ever. “Kindness is the light that dissolves all walls between souls, families and nations” P.W. #thinkbeforeyouspeak

So far, I have avoided getting a cold or the flu and thankfully, Todd and the kids have stayed healthy too.
Everyone I know is worried about getting the flu right now. The first thing I recommend is take an honest look at your current stress level. Most of us know that stress is unhealthy, but not everyone realizes how super hard stress is on your immune system!
Now more than ever, we need to de-stress our lives and give our immune system all the help we can provide.

Here are my Top 5 Ways to avoid the Flu
Stay away from sugar. Before meal blood sugars are 70-99. It’s estimated that a blood sugar level of 120 reduces your immune system by up to 75%!
High quality supplementation and probiotic. Supplementing our healthy diet is so important for an optimal immune system. 70% of our immune system is in the walls of our gut.
Meditation is how I begin my day. Quiet time alone focused on your breathing can boost your immune system. Meditation can be practiced anywhere, for any amount of time. One type of meditation commonly used as a stress management technique is called Transcendental Meditation. It’s simple to do. It’s recommended that you practice for 20 minutes, two times a day. You sit with your eyes closed and repeat a mantra of your choice.
Exercise/ Move your body daily. Having a daily exercise routine is a great way to master your stress management. Regular exercise will help you feel better by releasing endorphins and help you maintain overall health.

I get a lot of questions about doing a 5-day reset. The most popular question is, “Does this reset thing really help me manage my weight?”
Diets don’t work; lifestyle changes do
I’ll be straight-up with you, it’s not about losing weight. I hear a lot of gasps right after I say this. But, it’s true. A reset is exactly what the name implies–it’s a RESET. We are resetting our bodies back to a healthy baseline so we can jump-start our healthy habits. And of course we all know that healthy habits lead to a healthy lifestyle.
Strategies about creating habits and forming certain intentions are not tricks, but once we form them, they are more likely to kick in automatically right when we need them.

This is why resets works. Resets are lifestyle changes not diets. Diets don’t work. Lifestyle changes do work. This is what the science says. We all know this, but most of keep trying dieting and continue to set ourselves up for failure.
Diets do not work. The scientific evidence is clear as can be that cutting calories simply doesn’t lead to long-term weight loss or health gains.
We suspect most dieters have realized this by now too. And yet, here they are again, setting the same weight loss goal this year that they set last year.”

Humans are generally lazy. A nicer way of phrasing this is that in general we are so efficient that we tend to follow the path of least resistance! 😉
This desire for taking the easy approach is a blessing in disguise. When it comes to lifestyle diet changes, this is thee golden rule.
Stock up on foods that are known to be healthier for you and known to help manage weight!
Conversely, remove all the foods that you know are bad for you and contribute to excessive weight gain. Bottom line is give yourself easy access to the good stuff. Make it harder to be able to get your hands on the not-so-good stuff.
On December twentieth, 2017, I decided to be mindfully unmindful.
Mindfully choosing to eat, in particular, cherry Hershey kisses, every night for a week. I also engaged in a lot, of processed foods. Cheese and crackers, homemade bread, a few cookies, lots of popcorn, beer, and pizza.
I have often said that I am a big believer in 80/20 rule. I really do enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle 80% of the time or more.
I also love, one of my favorite things, movie popcorn with a large fountain pop! It’s true! I look forward to movie night with my husband twice a month, and that’s my favorite thing! Most of the time we go and get a burger before the movie. My burger would be without the bun, and I always get sweet potato fries but you get the picture. #noregrets 🤗
So the results of my conscious crappy eating include, all of the following:
5 unwanted pounds.
Many nights sleeping with my head on two or three pills, almost sitting up, because of the heartburn.
Lack of motivation and focus
According registered dietitian Aglaee Jacob, “Regular binges increase risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, some types of cancers, gallbladder disease, headaches, joint pain and menstrual problems for women.
Binges can also affect you psychologically by causing feelings of failure, guilt and shame, depression and even suicidal thoughts.”
The Good News
I’m not exactly sure of the deep-seated reasons I chose to allow myself this re-tox. However what I do know is the contrast between how I feel eating dead processed foods and eating food my body craves for health, energy, focus, and motivation to be my highest self.
It only took two days, and I was already feeling relief!
I can’t believe it!…Yes, I can!
I totally KNOW this and TEACH this.
It really was a strange gift to experience the reality of how destructive “dead food” can be👎🏼
Eating well and taking care of yourself
It’s not about how you look anymore
Yes, I like how I look much better when I’m taking care myself–that seems natural to me. But now, it’s about having the energy and vitality to feel my best!
To walk the talk! To feel strong and confident with a clear mind.
To take responsibility for the energy I bring to each day.
To have the physical ability to play with my children and perform at my highest levels in my highest purpose!

As you all know I was honored to travel to Baja, MX last week to Sanoviv Medical Institute to host a Health and Education Retreat for six days.
But, like all of us when we try something new, I had some doubts and concerns. “Will I be able to let go, will my kids be okay, and will I be ready for my upcoming keynote presentation?” were just some of the things on my mind.

My husband Todd lives a pretty healthy life but kind of waived off the VERY REAL significance of DIET when it came to its relationship to PAIN.
With his work, his pre-Sanoviv diet, nutrition, and lifestyle kept his pain at about a 3 on a scale of 1-10. Some days worse or better depending on the job.
Nights were the worst. His arms would fall asleep. Not the tingly falling asleep but a painful fall asleep accompanied by pain that would wake him up at night.
After two days at Sanoviv, he was pain-FREE. YES. Pain-FREE!!!

About three years ago, someone I respect, told me that if I was feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, or if I felt like I wanted to quit, then just QUIT.
At 47-years old I started my coaching business after 18 years of being a stay-at-home mom. Out of our seven children, three were still being home-schooled, and basically, five of the seven were still living at home.
My husband Todd is an entrepreneur and runs a successful flooring business.
Although all the troops were on board to support my new journey, no one really knew what to expect, including me.
The kids were used to having me “at the ready” and honestly so was Todd. I was juggling all the new parts of having a business and growing a team all the while doing my best to maintain all the same mom responsibilities.
There were a lot of break-downs along the way.
I’m happy to share with you that in 3 years:

I get the opportunity to choose how my day will go.
I get to work alongside women and men who want to create life on their own terms. Women who have decided to figure out what lights them up and together we work out a plan of action to deliberately and intentionally do what they love.
Take 15 minutes every morning to breathe–to meditate.

Ever have negative emotions? Of course, we all do. But, I’ll bet that most of use don’t know how to handle or cope with these negative emotions. I.e. we are doing it all wrong. Set aside some time to watch this video. It’s a different way and a healthier way to check-in with your negative thoughts.
This didn’t look quite as pretty as the picture but actually that mango looks a bit like melted cheese?
Listen people, I do not love to venture off the beaten path when it comes to what I eat. I know what I like and that’s usually what I eat every day.
So, this new #30dayraw (you should do it with me), has really opened me up to food and how fun it is!
That might sound funny coming from a Holistic Wellness Coach who talks about food? But, with 7 kids it’s not easy to be super creative and get something that everyone likes. This is especially challenging with a picky husband. 🙄
So for now I’m making my own meals and hoping they’ll be open to trying them. This taco recipe is amaze balls, and EASY 😅
A little too salty so I’ll tweak it for next time but it lasted me for 2 supper meals! 🙌🏻Super good! 😋and PS, all the new recipes I’m making fit right into my amazing SexyFit program!
Happy Father’s Day to all my friends that are dads, all of the husbands, and to the men who love and care for the children that aren’t even their “own.” 😊
My husband, Todd adopted our eldest child when we got married when she was just five years-old.
This was the beginning of an unbelievable grace-filled family journey that would read more like a novel than a newsletter. Numerous beautiful experiences in our life have molded us into the amazing individuals and parents (and children) that we are today.
I love my husband of 26-years, more today than than ever before; I love him for many reasons.
Despite our sometimes polar opposite parenting styles, and more often than not, feeling like I am the only parent in the house–he loves our children fiercely.
The number one biggest and most important gift he has embodied for our children is his love for me.
“The greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother” ~A.G.U.
Really, my friends, Todd is a superdad. NOT a perfect dad–a real dad. He is doing his best to BE his best. ☺️ Cheers to all the daddys doing their best and to all the dads who have left this physical place.

This weekend I had the honor of presenting at a health and fitness fest.
Before I began to teach–as we waited for the event to begin, I introduced myself to a group of ladies at the table. I like to meet the audience to ask what they hope to learn or hear more about.
They thought for a moment and one lady simply said,
“How do we fit it all in?”
This is an age old question.
The same lady proceeded to tell me the schedule of her daily events and how by the end of the day she was pooped. With all our responsibilities, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time.
This, my sisters, is NOT true and NOT true.
WE decide what things or people or tasks we prioritize.
WE decide what things or people or tasks we give our time to.
Just Do It
Our choices reflect our priorities. So, the simple answer to, “How do I fit it all in?”
START with fitting YOU in…. FIRST thing in the morning. YOU.
Everything else will feel so much easier. I promise.

On May 4th, 2017 my two eldest daughters and I went to the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico. We spent six days experiencing beautiful tropical weather, beaches, rainforest hikes, bodysurfing, great food, and snapping tons of selfies!
This was the first time I had ever been anywhere with just the two eldest of our seven children.
We all did great staying off our phones during the trip–making just the nightly calls to check-in at home (me to Todd and the three kids still at home, and Shannon and Abby to their families ❤️).
THEY LOVE ME
On the way home, we had time to post all our pics of all the mother-daughter amazingness!!
Maybe you saw them?
Jumping in the air at the beach?
Laughing at the cliffs?
At the seaside farm to plate restaurants?
Baking (with sunscreen!) in the sun?
On our back-road mountain climbing car rides to the rainforest?
Sounds amazing, yes? Truth be told, it WAS amazing!!!
MY MOTHER’S DAY MIRACLE
One year ago, I would never have in a million years thought that my girls would have ever considered traveling out of the country with ME would be appealing. I know in their hearts it would have been a HOPE but most likely they would have never entertained it.
A LOT HAS CHANGED IN A YEAR
This trip was actually Shannon’s (our eldest) idea. She asked ME! I said YES! Then we asked Abby, and when she was a go, it was a done deal.
These two women, my daughters, have grown up with me.
I was pregnant with Shannon as a senior in high school and had Abby at 23. Growing up they had decisions made for them, by me, that were not easy to navigate at times. They loved me. They did not LIKE me. It was more like tolerated me 🙂 That was until this last year.
WHAT WE DIDN’T POST
The not so pretty part of mother-daughter love.
Is it because they are like me in ways, and don’t want to be?
Is it because they still feel the pain of those decisions that were made for them growing up?
Is it that I really AM annoying and over the top and pushy and bossy and too happy and not enough?
ALL THE ABOVE IS TRUE….at times.
They love me and like me (most of the time ), and they are my BEST friends.
I can’t even believe I get to say that!!!
So that’s it, my mama bear friends.
KEEP UP THE GOOD AND IMPORTANT WORK
Keep learning to love yourself and remembering how amazing you are.
Keep reminding yourself how worthy YOU are.
Tell your daughter EVERY DAY how worthy SHE IS.
Teach them to love themselves, by example.
You will get through the not so fun times.
They love you.
Be real, be honest, be wrong.
Teach them to breathe fire.
They are watching.
YOU ARE A KICK ASS MAMA THAT IS CHANGING THE WORLD!

I felt stuck for a week, and yesterday I had a breakthrough
I am shifting in my business and it FEELS DIFFERENT.
For 2 weeks it felt, not so good. Sluggish.
What if no one does anything? If I switch my focus and follow the well-being, I know that leads me, but will I reach my goals?
For all of these questions I already had the answers, but the SHIFT can really rattle a girl for a minute!
Growth feels different and sometimes it feels bittersweet. It is necessary as I CHOOSE to move forward but the FEELING, because it is new, can feel uncomfortable. So riding it out is a CHOICE.
I choose to ride it out, because, from experience, I know that I am SHIFTING and getting ready for the next level of ME. The feeling of “pressure” isn’t a bad thing. A diamond doesn’t get to be a diamond, without some pressure.
The breakthrough happened, and the FEELING is SO GOOD.
I CHOOSE TO TRUST MY JOURNEY! It NEVER lets me down! Whoop! Whoop!
